Two days a week based on your street number, once a day before 9am or after 6pm, nothing from 1 June to 31 August. Bores included. $100 fine.

Your two days

Water Corporation gives every Mandurah, Rockingham and Peel property on scheme water two watering days a week, set by the last digit of your street number: 1 or 8 — Wednesday and Saturday; 2 or 9 — Sunday and Thursday; 3 or 0 — Monday and Friday; 4 — Tuesday and Saturday; 5 — Sunday and Wednesday; 6 — Monday and Thursday; 7 — Tuesday and Friday. Water once on each day, either before 9am or after 6pm. Bore users follow the same roster.

Use the watering-day finder on this site to check yours in two seconds.

The winter switch-off

From 1 June to 31 August every year, sprinklers must be off — scheme and bore. Hand watering is fine. The penalty is a $100 on-the-spot fine, and breaching a new-garden exemption can cost up to $500. Water Corporation inspectors work seven days a week and Lakelands and Meadow Springs have historically topped the local fines list.

New lawn exemptions

If you lay new turf or plant a new garden close to or during the switch-off, you can apply to Water Corporation for a watering exemption. We help with the application when we've laid your lawn — it's quick, and it stops you choosing between a fine and a dead lawn.

How much water a lawn really needs

Water Corporation's advice is that most Perth gardens need about 10 mm of water twice a week in summer. That's roughly 10–15 minutes of pop-up sprinklers per station, not 40. Deep, infrequent watering grows deep roots; a daily sprinkle grows shallow roots and fungus. The fix for dry patches is coverage and soil wetter, not run time.

Program your retic properly

Separate stations for lawn, gardens and pots. Run before 6am. Set the winter switch-off in the controller or swap to a smart Wi-Fi controller that handles the roster and rain delays automatically. If your controller still runs the same program in January and June, it's time.

FAQ

Quick answers

Do watering days apply to bores?
Yes — same two days, and the winter switch-off applies to bores too.
Can I hand water on any day?
Yes, hand-held hoses are allowed any day, any time.
What about drip irrigation?
Drip is still irrigation and follows the roster, but it uses far less water per plant.
