Hard surfaces are where a yard either feels finished or doesn't. Around Mandurah, exposed aggregate has become the standard for alfresco areas and driveways because it hides sand, grips wet feet and suits the coastal palette. We also pour plain, coloured and honed concrete, lay brick, limestone and porcelain paving, and build the stepping-stone paths and pool coping that tie it all together.

The ground under a slab on the coast is sand, which is great for drainage but moves if it isn't compacted. We compact in layers, use reinforcing mesh, set falls away from the house, cut control joints and seal exposed aggregate so it keeps its colour. Paving gets a compacted road-base and bedding sand, haunched edges and gap sand so it doesn't walk.

How much does exposed aggregate cost in Mandurah?

Around $125–$210 per square metre in the Perth–Mandurah area, with $170/m² typical. Plain concrete is $79–$160/m² and coloured $100–$210/m². Brick paving runs $63–$170/m² and limestone or natural stone paving $120–$250/m².

Concrete or pavers?

Concrete is seamless, lower maintenance and usually cheaper per metre for big areas. Pavers are easier to lift if you need to get at a pipe, look great in smaller courtyards and can be laid in stages. Both work on sand if the base is compacted properly.

Will my slab crack?

All concrete cracks; the trick is making it crack in the control joints we cut, not across the middle. Mesh, correct thickness, compacted base and curing all help. Hairline cracks in joints are normal and not a defect.

Do you do driveways?

Yes — exposed aggregate, plain and coloured concrete driveways and brick-paved driveways, including the crossover. Crossovers on council land need a permit from the City; we can organise it.

How long before I can use it?

Walk on it after 24–48 hours, furniture after a week, vehicles after about 7–10 days. Exposed aggregate is sealed after the wash-off, usually within a few days.
