Landscaping the Peel region — Pinjarra to Waroona

Acreage in Barragup, canal homes in South Yunderup, river blocks in Ravenswood and town lots in Pinjarra and Waroona. The Peel region is bigger, more varied and more rural than the coast — and it's our backyard.

East and south of Mandurah the landscape changes from coastal dune sand to the river flats of the Serpentine and Murray, then up onto the Darling Scarp at Dwellingup. The Shire of Murray (18,000 people, 1,700 km²) and Shire of Waroona (4,200 people) are a mix of historic towns, growing estates at Ravenswood and Yunderup, canal developments on the Murray delta, and rural-residential blocks from 2,000 m² to hectares.

Landscaping here means more earthworks and more water. We cut driveways and firebreaks, level paddocks, build long retaining runs, install bore reticulation and pump systems, and design gardens that handle heavier soils and winter-wet ground in the river areas as well as sand nearer the coast. Canal-zoned lots in the Shire of Murray need planning approval for retaining walls — we know the process.

Rules that matter here. Shire of Murray: building permit for any retaining wall over 500 mm with engineer-certified design; planning approval always required for retaining walls on Canal-zoned lots; annual firebreak notice for larger lots. Shire of Waroona applies the same state building rules.
