Does my retaining wall need a permit?
Height, council, boundary and canal-lot rules from the WA Building Regulations and local councils, checked in ten seconds.
The short version
Any wall retaining more than 500 mm needs a building permit and an engineer-certified design anywhere in WA. The City of Mandurah can also require planning approval for fill over 500 mm, the Shire of Murray always requires planning approval for walls on canal-zoned lots, and cutting close to a boundary can need neighbour consent.
